Artist's Description

Here stands Metsákoshi. She holds an olive branch in the one hand, the most ancient symbol of peace, and in the other hand a cornucopia that symbolizes the abundance and fruitfulness that comes from peace.

Her name means “Beautiful Leader” in the Shipibo language of the Upper Amazon of Peru.

Above and around her is Chono Shobo Biri, the “shining palace of the hummingbird,” where the Chaicuni, the ancestral spirits of the Shipibo tribe, dwell. They live in an absolute state of divine grace and radiate peace and harmony to their descendants on Earth.

The author of Ayahuasca Visions: The Religious Iconography of a Peruvian Shaman...
