Supai Pucabufeo (The Magical Pink Dolphin)
This is the legendary pucabufeo or Amazonian dolphin which transforms itself into an attractive young man and seduces pretty young women with his charm. In the River Ucayali region these beings often make their appearance in the port offering fish, which is what the girls like. After a brief courtship, the girl agrees to live with the pucabufeo but he is never there when other people are around, so he avoids being found out. In the days of the rubber boom, rubber tappers would frequently be away for long periods. That was the ideal time to take advantage of innocent girls, and infants would be born half pink.
Recognized as one of the world’s great visionary artists, Pablo Amaringo was renowned for his intricate, colorful paintings inspired by his shamanic visions. A master communicator of the ayahuasca experience--where snakes, jaguars, subterranean beings, celestial palaces, aliens, and spacecraft all converge--Amaringo’s art presents a doorway to the transcendent worlds of ayahuasca intended for contemplation, meditation, and inspiration.
