Description
Yacuruna Huasi - The House of the Yacuruna
Here we see the yacuruna living among the roots of the renaco tree with the chaicuni: ancestral spirits of the Shipibo who look and dress like them. The yacuruna go down holes covered by large coloured stones according to their colour, these are guarded by yana cocodrilos (black crocodiles).
I have been to see how comfortably these senores live in their well appointed houses. All their furniture is alive and moves: if you sit on a chair, it trembles under you and worse! Animals of every kind are used as props for living; they are a part of the yacuruna huasi.
