Description
In this picture, Zarabeth appears as an Oceanid, in one hand holding a golden sceptre and the other a green-turquoise orb that signifies her dominion over the freshwater sources of the Earth.
She is also known as the giant serpent Yacumama, literally “mother of the water,” in the Quechua language. I
n the rich mythology of the Amazon rainforest, she is the personification of water in its liquid and vapor states that rise to the sky to form rainclouds, an intrinsic part of the bioecological cycle for the rainforest and the planet.
